Intolerance testing and nutrition support for dogs with sensitivities, allergies or chronic issues

About image

I’m Michele — a certified Canine Nutritionist and Food Therapist (TCVM), and the founder of Salty Paws Australia.

If your dog is itchy, suffers from yeast or ear issues, is constantly licking paws, or just not thriving, I’m here to help. I work with pet parents to uncover the root causes behind their dog’s discomfort — whether it’s food sensitivities, poor gut health, environmental triggers or nutritional imbalances — and create simple, natural solutions that work.

At Salty Paws, I offer:
  • Food Intolerance, Environmental & Nutritional Deficiency Testing (we include Metal & Textile triggers)
  • 1:1 nutrition support (raw, gently cooked or slow cooked meal plans + pre-made barf & PMR)
  • Handcrafted and natural products, made with gentle botanicals like calendula
I support dogs of all breeds and ages — especially those with chronic symptoms that vets can't seem to solve.

✨ Want to see if we’re a good fit? I offer a free 15-minute chat to understand your dog’s needs and explore how I can help.

I’m based in South Australia with my British Bulldogs, and I’d love to be part of your dog’s wellness journey.

Hi, I'm Michele - the heart behind Salty Paws Australia.

My journey with British Bulldogs started years ago when I was starting out in life, full of excitement and... determination to get a bulldog!  A little book called The Shaman's Bulldog - A love Story first sparked my fascination, and after lots of research into different breeds, it became clear: bulldogs were it for me.

Finding a healthy, well-bred bulldog wasn't easy, but everything changed when I met a breeder at a country dog show. That's when T-Bone came into my life - and completely stole my heart.

From that moment on, I was hooked. I became a registered breeder, focused on raising strong, healthy British Bulldogs and showing the world that they can thrive with the right care. Over time, my passion for dog health grew into 'Salty Paws Australia' - a place where I now help dogs of all breeds live better through nutrition, intolerance testing and natural products.

Though I stopped breeding in 2023, I still feel called to support dog owners - especially those navigating the bulldog journey. If that's you, I hope you feel at home here.

Because once you love a bulldog... there's no going back ❤️🐾

Thank you to Nathan, family and friends for making this possible.

Exercise

If you are hoping to go for regular 10 km jogs with your dog, then a bulldog isn't the one for you. Bulldogs don’t necessarily need daily walks as long as the amount of food being given matches the amount of exercise they get. However, be aware that not all bulldogs are couch potatoes, many have seemingly endless energy for racing around and getting into mischief. Semi regular walks, training and daily interactive play will help to keep your bulldog healthy and active, as well as reducing potentially destructive behaviour caused by boredom.

Food

There are lots of different options and opinions about the best food for your dog, in the end you need to find one that suits your budget, your bulldog's tummy and the amount of time you have to spend preparing their food. To start with use the brand that your bulldog comes with, this is what they have been raised on and any food changes need to be made slowly to avoid upset tummies. Raised and/or tilted food and water bowls are perfect for bulldogs.

Bedding and Housing

Bulldogs do not cope well with extreme temperatures, this, plus the fact at they are very valuable, means they are strictly indoor dogs when it comes to where they need to spend the majority of their time. Bulldogs should never be left outside unattended, overnight, or for long periods of time.

Bulldogs and Children

Growing up with a dog can be a wonderful, loving experience for a child, however, there is nothing more heartbreaking for a breeder than seeing a dog surrendered because the owners are having a child and feel they can no longer keep the dog.

Bulldogs and other Dogs

Having more than one dog can be a great way to ensure your fur babies always have someone to play with and keep them company while you are not at home. However, please think about how any current or future dogs may interact with your bulldog and be prepared to put some time into making sure they are comfortable playing and living together.

What's in a name... The term "Salty Dog" originated from Appalachia, where they would rub salt into the coat of a dog as a form of flea repellent. Since salt wasn't cheap, they would only treat their favourite dog. Therefore, someone's "Salty Dog" became known as their favourite person or best friend. We are lucky enough to live by the beach and our dogs love to play in and out of the water, getting sand everywhere! So, it was only fitting when the time came to start our new venture "Salty Paws" was the perfect name for us. Our logo colours also reflect this - blue, white, yellow and green (sea, shells, sand and herbs).
