Welcome to Salty Paws Australia - where healing meets happiness. I am dedicated to ensuring your dog enjoys a lifetime of optimal health and well-being.

The inspiration behind Salty Paws Australia stems from personal experience with T-Bone, my first British Bulldog, who struggled with persistent skin allergies, UTIs and bladder stones. Facing frequent vet visits and relying on antibiotics and steroids to manage these conditions, I became increasingly concerned about the long-term effects of steroid use on T-Bone's health.

Motivated by a desire for a natural and safe long-term solution, I embarked on a journey of research, a lot of study and discovery, ultimately crafting remedies using healing botanical herbs. One such favourite healing herb, calendula, renowned for its antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory properties, features prominently in our products.

As a Canine Nutrition Specialist promoting good gut health through a raw or lightly cooked diet is very important. I am happy to work with you to customise a simple nutritious diet that promotes good health for years to come. Food Intolerance, Environmental and Nutritional Imbalance testing is new to Salty Paws and provides a fast-track solution to knowing what your pet can and cannot tolerate as I step you through the elimination process.

As a former registered dog breeder, I am thrilled to introduce Salty Paws Australia, offering holistic pet care solutions for all dog breeds. I believe that every pet deserves to experience love, happiness, freedom from pain, and overall good health.

For more information, please visit our Facebook page or see the latest on Instagram. Check out the Market tab above for our upcoming market dates.

Thank you for considering Salty Paws Australia for your beloved furry companions.

Close to 35 years ago I moved out of home, started a new job and was excited about what lay ahead. Top of my priority list... buy a bulldog! I began a fascination with bulldogs after I was given a charming little book, The Shaman Bulldog - a love story. I thoroughly researched different breeds, their temperaments, grooming, feeding and exercising. I wanted to ensure the breed would match my everyday life and the dog would receive the lifestyle it deserved. After further research, I knew the British Bulldog was the breed for me.
I read about all the issues British Bulldogs could have and I was anxious to find a breeder I felt loved the breed and truly cared about raising healthy dogs. It turned out to be a very long and frustrating process. While attending a country dog show I found a breeder who was releasing a male, ex-show British Bulldog for sale. T-Bone came into my life, stealing my heart and my bed!
This breed is truly like no other, and some do have a lot of health issues. The bulldogs following T-Bone have mainly been health issue free. Breeding healthy bulldogs and sharing with you the raw, organic products made especially for bulldogs and promoting a fresh food diet were the factors compelling me to become a small registered boutique breeder. I take great pleasure in alerting people to how healthy and active British Bulldogs can be, to help remove the stigma from the breed, and to take the fear out of buying one of these beautiful dogs.
The aim of 'Salty Paws Australia' was two-fold; to breed healthy, happy bulldogs that better the breed for years to come and to provide nutritional advice along with handcrafting natural products to care for this breed. As a breeder (former as of 2023), I would like to educate future buyers that it is a privilege to own these special little beings, you are not buying a dog, you are adopting a four-legged child. If you have always wanted a British Bulldog, but finding the right breeder has always seemed too hard then hopefully the information you find on my pages will make the process a lot easier and more reassuring for you.

T-Bone was my first British Bulldog. He started my love affair with the breed and I couldn't leave this page without giving him an honourable mention. Thank you to Nathan, family and friends for making this possible.

JAZZ - RETIRED HELPER

A bulldog does not lick you, she kisses you; A bulldog does not look at you, she admires you; A bulldog does not bark, she talks to you; A bulldog does not snore, she reminds you of her presence; A bulldog is born to love the world, especially you.

MARLEY

Sassy Marley is very busy as we have our very first litter of 'Bulldogs on Military' puppies. Marley couldn't wait for the planned c-section at 11am on 29 July. Panting around 1am, I was hoping she would make it until the vet opened that morning. To my surprise a little piggie popped out in Marley's basket just before 3am. Another followed... and we then headed to the vets where 5 more piggies were delivered.

Grooming

Regular grooming not only helps to keep your bulldog looking happy and healthy it helps to form a bond between you and your new bulldog. Start your routine as soon as you get your puppy to get them used to being handled and groomed.

Exercise

If you are hoping to go for regular 10 km jogs with your dog, then a bulldog isn't the one for you. Bulldogs don’t necessarily need daily walks as long as the amount of food being given matches the amount of exercise they get. However, be aware that not all bulldogs are couch potatoes, many have seemingly endless energy for racing around and getting into mischief. Semi regular walks, training and daily interactive play will help to keep your bulldog healthy and active, as well as reducing potentially destructive behaviour caused by boredom.

Food

There are lots of different options and opinions about the best food for your dog, in the end you need to find one that suits your budget, your bulldog's tummy and the amount of time you have to spend preparing their food. To start with use the brand that your bulldog comes with, this is what they have been raised on and any food changes need to be made slowly to avoid upset tummies. Raised and/or tilted food and water bowls are perfect for bulldogs.

Bedding and Housing

Bulldogs do not cope well with extreme temperatures, this, plus the fact at they are very valuable, means they are strictly indoor dogs when it comes to where they need to spend the majority of their time. Bulldogs should never be left outside unattended, overnight, or for long periods of time.

Bulldogs and Children

Growing up with a dog can be a wonderful, loving experience for a child, however, there is nothing more heartbreaking for a breeder than seeing a dog surrendered because the owners are having a child and feel they can no longer keep the dog.

Bulldogs and other Dogs

Having more than one dog can be a great way to ensure your fur babies always have someone to play with and keep them company while you are not at home. However, please think about how any current or future dogs may interact with your bulldog and be prepared to put some time into making sure they are comfortable playing and living together.

What's in a name... The term "Salty Dog" originated from Appalachia, where they would rub salt into the coat of a dog as a form of flea repellent. Since salt wasn't cheap, they would only treat their favourite dog. Therefore, someone's "Salty Dog" became known as their favourite person or best friend. We are lucky enough to live by the beach and our dogs love to play in and out of the water, getting sand everywhere! So, it was only fitting when the time came to start our new venture "Salty Paws" was the perfect name for us. Our logo colours also reflect this - blue, white, yellow and green (sea, shells, sand and herbs).
